This is a truly spectacular antique Carlton House desk dating from around 1880 and manufactured by the renowned Maple & Co. Fashioned in superb satinwood, it is crossbanded in tulipwood.
This gorgeous antique Carlton House desk is superbly finished all around and is bordered with boxwood and ebony lines. In the tradition of Carlton House desks, it features a curved superstructure which sits atop the writing surface. This has a simulated fluted gallery with an central enclosed cupboard with three smaller drawers on either side. There two further enclosed cupboards and two drawers with curved hinged flaps above.There is also a pull out gold tooled black leather inset writing surface over a large central frieze drawer with scroll spandrels. This is flanked by two short drawers on either side. This wonderful antique Carlton House desk is raised on square tapering legs that terminate in spade feet with brass castors.
This antique Carlton House desk is fitted with the original brass locks, keys and brass drop handles. The locks bear the impressed stamp of the master locksmith Hobbs & Co. together with a brass Maple & Co, London, Paris, Buenos Aires label. This is truly a fantastic eye catching desk that will impress and delight in equal measure. The finely tapered legs lend it a refinement that can be lacking in other types of desk and it provides an enormous amount of storage and space without taking up huge amounts of space in your office or study.
