Dating from the last quarter of the 20th century this is a fine example of a Louis XV style writing table and bombe bureau plat.

Crafted from fine mahogany and satinwood it features a very striking hand-gilded and tooled leather writing surface. It comprises five drawers which makes it incredibly useful as a working desk and not just an exquisite symbol of refinement. It also has lovely ormolu mounts adding the splendour of this fine piece.

This beautiful bombe bureau plat desk typifies the styling that became popular during the reign of Louis XV in France which moved from the weightier styling of the early rococo to more lighthearted and simpler feel. This simpler styling was driven by Louis XV altering some of the vast rooms of his palace at Versailles into more smaller, more intimate spaces where lighter style furniture was more appropriate. This Louis XV style writing table represents this lovely lighter styling whilst still maintaining the sophistication and elegance of 18th century furniture.
