This fine looking piece of antique furniture is a beautiful antique Edwardian Carlton House desk in rosewood with marquetry decoration that is in the manner of the renowned retailer and manufacturer Edwards & Roberts and believed to be circa 1900 in date.
The desk is compact yet very striking in appearance, it is inlaid with a quantity of glorious satinwood marquetry consiting of ribbons, swags, bell flowers and delightful swirls.
The top of the desk is surmounted with a structure consisting of a variety of drawers and cupboards to meet the needs of the desk user for storage plus writing space. As you can see from the photograph below, in addition to the large and spacious centrally located freize drawer, which is lockable, there are also drawers and cupboard areas to each side of the desk top structure, providing storage space for stationery and other items.
The centre of the desk top structure is particularly ornate, as the following photograph shows.
The desk or writing table is raised on to four elegant yet sturdy tapering legs that are terminated with their original brass square cup castors. The writing surface on top of the desk has been lined with a fine quality tan leather inset complete with gilt-tooled decoration. One of the drawer fronts bears the impressed stamp for the makers, Edwards and Roberts. This lovely antique Edwardian Carlton house desk is supplied with a working lock to the central freize drawer and the original key.
