This is a superb quality antique burr walnut and amboyna kidney shaped writing table from a top quality maker and it has a number of features that will be of interest to collectors and furniture lovers alike. Firstly may we draw your attention to the fabulous decorative ormolu mounts which adorn this piece of antique furniture, along with the amboyna crossbanded decoration. The well proportioned and beautifully shaped single drawer provides useful storage space in this modestly proportioned writing table and is stamped with the name of the renowned cabinet maker and designer Gillow with this mark:
The writing surface of this antique Gillow kidney writing table is eye-catching and typical of the effect created by burr walnut when it has been expertly put to use. This is a very auseful, compact and attractive writing table that could serve its purpose all day long without the user becoming tired of its appearance.
Please take special note of the fact that this writing table is raised on four sturdy, yet delicate, elegant cabriole legs that terminate with ormolu sabots.
This kidney shaped writing table really was the work of a master craftsman, as you would expect from such a celebrated and sought after maker. The burr walnut that has been used, (a wood that was always reserved only for the most skillful of craftsmen), is complimented by the intricate gilded ormolu mounts which have been liberally used on this writing table.
As it is kidney shaped it is therefore finished on all sides so that it can stand freely anywhere in the room with no need to be placed against a wall.
