Even a quick glance at the images we have provided with this listing will be enough to tell you that this is a very special piece – a very fine antique French Louis XV Revival Cylinder Bureau which originated from London based Howard & Sons who were active as retailers and cabinet makers in the 19th Century.

This is an antique French Louis XVI revival cylinder bureau or  “bureau a cylindre”, which has been crafted from kingwood in the manner of Riesener and proudly bearing the ivorine label of the well known and sought after retailer and cabinet maker Howard & Sons of London and dating from around 1880. The bureau has a delightful pierced brass galleried top which is placed over a very attractive foliate and lyre inlaid parquetry cylinder. Inside the cylinder there is a fitted interior which includes three drawers together with a useful pull out slide which has been fitted with a blue gold tooled inset leather writing surface – and joy to behold and very comfortable to use.

The frieze also has a useful drawer and is decorated with inlaid swags. We are pleased to inform you that this drawer is fitted with the original working lock and keys.

This antique cylinder bureau is raised on four elegant square tapering legs that are terminated with ormolu sabots.
