This is a beautiful antique Victorian Partners Desk or Victorian Pedestal Desk, in mahogany, with original leather writing surface, which dates from around 1860.
Quite apart from its wonderful good looks, this fine example of a Victorian partners desk has something else to offer – lots and lots of storage space on both sides and the most desirable of working surfaces, as you can see from the images we have supplied.
The working surface still has it’s original inset green leather and gold tooled insert which gives it the character it deserves. This is a very pleasant and tactile material with which to cover any working surface as it not only feels nice and comfortable to work on but it also improves with age – the more you use it, the better it gets.
The desk is supplied complete with its original brass locks and keys. The locks are all stamped with the name of the maker, Hobbs & Co, well knowd and respected for their craft.
This rectanglular Victorian partners desk features a moulded edge and is fitted with three frieze drawers to either side.
The main feature of a partners desk of course being that it can be used by two people and has drawers and cupboards distributed on both sides although it is usual for there to be a slightly different configuration on each side – as is the case here. The frieze has three drawers on either side with one side having six further drawers arranged three per side.
The other side of the desk has two useful, lockable, cupboards, each having a shelf. The other main attraction of such a partners desk is that, because it is finished on both sides, it does not need to stand against a wall and can therefore be placed anywhere in a room.
The future owners of this desk, (could that be you?), will be pleased to see that all of the drawers and cupboards are still fitted with their original mahogany knobs. Every drawer and cupboard fitted to this Victorian pedestal desk is lockable.
The desk is upported by functional, strong yet elegant bracket feet.

This is a substantial Victorian partners desk, some 6ft in width, and will need a suitably sized area in which to stand – especially if you do intend to use it as a true partners desk with one person at either side, each with a chair. Here are the dimensions of this antique pedestal desk: 76cm high x 182cm wide x 119cm deep. For those who think in feet and inches that would be: Height 2 ft, 6 in x Width 6 ft x Depth 3 ft, 11 in.
