This is an antique Regency Sofa Table, or Regency writing table which is skillfully made from rosewood and decorated with some fine brass inlaid decoration. Our experts have dated it as being from around 1820.

This antique Regency writing table or sofa table would be equally at home in a home office or study or, as was originally intended, placed next to a sofa in your lounge.

As you can see from the gallery of photographs provided, this lovely antique Regency sofa table is crafted from beautiful rosewood and features simple and delicate decoration which has been masterfully inlaid with brass.

For storage, there are two capacious drawers of a suitable size for your books, office requisites, stationery and so on.

Sofa tables are often used as writing tables and this one is certainly suitable for that purpose. The sofa table or Regency writing table has two hinged extension flaps, one at each side, which can be raised to give you more space for writing or other purposes as required. When finished they can simply be dropped down out of the way, reducing the table’s footprint considerably.

Dimensions:
The table measures 74cm high x 155cm wide x 59cm deep when both the flaps are raised. When the flaps are closed, (down) then the table size reduces to 74cm high x 92cm wide x 59cm deep. This size adjustment makes this very functional table indeed.

For strength and stability, this table stands on a sturdy twin base with a stretcher. The legs, which also feature brass inlay work, are fitted with brass lion’s paw castors for ease of movement around the room.

Another very useful feature of this table is that it is finished on every side which means that it can be used anywhere in the room and does not have to placed against a wall as happens with tables that are not finished in this way.
It is traditional to place a sofa table against the back of a sofa to break up the dull rear end of the sofa but they are such a versatile item of furniture that they are more often found acting as a writing table or a console table.
