Circa 1880 in date, this is a wonderful example of a Victorian marquetry and satinwood ormolu mounted antique bureau de dame.

One stunning feature is the three quarter brass galley which surmounts this desk:

The antique bureau de dame has a drop flap that opens to show a fully fitted interior comprising three small drawers, as well as a writing surface made from gold tooled red leather:

The bureau is also fully decorated with wonderful floral marquetry:

It stands on beautiful cabriole legs which are decorated with ormolu mounts:

It comes complete with working lock and key.

Made in beautiful satinwood, this has been the wood of choice for cabinet makers throughout history due to its wonderful sheen and has also been used to make musical instruments and veneers.

Wood marquetry techniques were developed by Antwerp cabinet makers in the early 16th century. Renowned as a centre for luxury items, Flemish techniques were imported into France in the mid-seventeenth century where it became popular for royal furniture made for places such as Versailles.

This wonderful antique bureau de dame is on offer at only £1,950.
