Fully restored and beautifully French polished, we now offer for sale this lovely antique French Ormolu mounted partners desk or bureau plat dating from around 1880. Measuring some 5 ft 1 inch wide this is a large and impressive item of antique French furniture that has been expertly fashioned by craftsmen from top quality mahogany and then finished with a series of decorative ormolu mounts. The desk is finished on both sides and is therefore classed as a partners desk as it could be used by two people simultaneously, one either side. The added benefit of this is that the desk need not be placed against a wall as it looks good from every angle, front and back and can be placed anywhere in the room!
The partners desk has a rectangular top decorated with a gilt bronze border together with raised corner cartouches. It still has the original black leather inset writing surface which has a decorative ormolu border and which is in excellent condition, as is the rest of the desk.
There are three good-sized and useful frieze drawers on each side of the desk.
The writing table is supported by four elegant cabriole legs that terminate in ormolu sabot feet.
