This is a very fine example of an Antique Dutch Marquetry Mahogany Secretaire Cabinet which dates from around 1800.
On sale at £3750 and in truly excellent condition, having been fully and sympathetically restored by our own craftsmen in our own workshops, this is a very interesting and impressive antique Dutch Secretaire a Abbatant, circa which we are dating at around 1800. Lovers of mahogany will certainly love this item as it features very fine flame mahogany construction which is adorned with lots of intricate satinwood floral marquetry decoration incorporating ribbons, garlands, birds and seaweed marquetry.
A quick scan of the photographs we have included here will tell you that this antique secretaire chest is of the very highest quality. It is fitted with a beautiful fall front secretaire interior and a full width frieze drawer is located above it.
This secretaire doesn’t shortchange you on storage space as it features a useful bank of pigeon holes and a shelf as well as the six small drawers and a centrally positioned storage cupboard. The marquetry writing surface has been fitted with an lovely leather inset writing surface in burgundy. The interior of the secretaire is also decorated with floral marquetry decoration.
Yet more storage comes from the further three useful drawers located below the secretaire, fitted with their original brass handles and escutcheons.
As a finishing touch, the secretaire chest rests on a nice decorative plinth base which has been raised on elegant tapering legs. We are pleased to report that this chest is supplied with its original working locks and keys.
