Dating from around 1870 this is a lovely antique Victorian writing table, or sofa table, in Walnut.

The first thing most people will notice about this fine table is the superb table top which features a beautifully finished surface of burr walnut with its characteristic and very stylish patterned grain, as can clearly be seen in the following photograph:

Storage is provided by way of two spacious drawers located in the frieze, each having lovely turned handles and locks, as shown below:

All good tables need sturdy support and this one is no different. As you can see, the job is being done in some considerable style by the substantial solid walnut hand- carved base which features turned, reeded and fluted end supports and which stands on the floor using the original brass and porcelain castors, making it easy to move around the room as needed.
