Bureau Plat Writing Tables
What Is A Bureau Plat?
Bureau Plat is the French term for “flat topped writing table” and it dates from the reign of Louis XV of France. The design and the term is attributed to one Andre Charles Boulle, (1642 – 1732), who was a master cabinet maker and who was further described as being “the most skillful artisan in Paris”.
The main characteristics of a Bureau Plat are a flat topped writing surface and, usually, three drawers situated beneath the writing surface. Although most “writing tables” do have drawers we have used the term Bureau Plat on this site to describe those which are French or in the French style.
Take a few moments to look through our range of Bureau Plat Writing Tables and don’t forget to ask if there’s any information you need which isn’t in the description.
