Keep your books in one place and your desk super-tidy with this Antique Victorian Coromandel Brass Book Slide which our experts have dated from around 1870:

This is a well-made and very striking antique Victorian brass mounted coromandel book slide which is styled in the Gothic Revival manner and which bears the ivorine label of “Hopkins, Maker, 22 New Bond Street, London”.

As you can see from the following image,  ends have been elaborately decorated with beautiful gilt brass cut-card mounts with pierced carrying handles.

As this bookslide is made from Coromandel wood (also known as Calamander wood) it is quite scarce as that timber is no longer available in any quantity and has not been for many years. New pieces in this wood are virtually unheard of and, since anything made from Coromandel would have been expensive when first bought the chances are it would have been well looked after, thereby commanding a good price if sold. This victorian bookslide is no exception and is offered for sale at £255.
