Representing great value at £3,250, this is a very attractive antique French Desk, which could be more accurately described as an ormolu mounted Pollard Oak desk and which dates from around 1850. The desk, or writing table, was made in Nice, southern France by a craftsman called J. Pietrasanta. We know this because Monsieur Pietransanta was thoughtful enough to put a brass name plate in one of the drawers which reads as follows:
1 Rue de Chateauneuf
And which looks like this……
The desk has been finished in fine quality Pollard Oak and has a dense, detailed grain which is similar to that of Burr Walnut. The colour is just perfect and this is one desk where no corners have been cut in terms of craftsmanship or quality of materials.
You will notice the very attractive serpentine sides which, together with the fact that this desk is finished on all sides, means it can be displayed, or used, anywhere in a room – no need to back it up to a wall.
In all, there are a total of seven drawers to provide more than adequate storage space for your stationery and documents.
