This is a very striking antique German Biedermeier period flame mahogany secretaire abbatant dating from around 1830.
The term “Biedermeier” is used to describe an era in Central Europe history during which arts appealed to common sensibilities in the historical period between 1815 and 1848. In terms of furniture, Biedermeier was an influential style that emerged from Germany during the years 1815–1848 that was based on utilitarian principles.
This secretaire is very typical of the Biedermeier period and combines top class materials with expert craftsmanship and functionality. When viewing the item, please take special note of the flame veneered surfaces and of the cushion frieze drawers above the gilt tooled leather lined fall.
Inside the secretaire there is a useful arrangement of seven rosewood drawers along with a good-sized cupboard. Below this you will see two full width drawers that are flanked by a pair of solid mahogany Corinthian style columns. Plenty of storage space without sacrificing appearance.
